The 88CS Cutlass The cutlass has been the weapon of choice among seafaring men stretching back to ancient times. Not only was it made famous in close quarter melees as pirates boarded treasure-laden galleons during the great "Age of Sail", it also has seen action as standard issue among many of the world's great navies. The 1917 model cutlass was used in continuous service by the U.S. Navy for 57 years. Cold Steel'sŪ modern recreation of this classic fighting sword is as authentic as possible and virtually an exact copy of an original. The Cold SteelŪ 1917 Cutlass features the signature curved blade with a short clipped point sharp enough for good penetration. The blade is blued to resist rust. Just like the original the 88CS Cutlass features a half basket guard stamped out of heavy 18-gauge carbon steel and blued to match the blade. The handle is fashioned from carefully shaped hardwood painted brown and secured to the full tang by three heavy brass cutler's rivets. The scabbard is made entirely of high quality leather, brass and copper.
